Hearing of Diana Ioniță, candidate for the position of Supreme Court judge

Judicial inspector Diana Ioniță is running for the position of judge at the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ) and is being evaluated by the Vetting Commission in accordance with Law No. 65/2023. As part of the external integrity assessment process for the candidate, the Commission has invited her for a hearing.

During the hearing, the Commission members posed several questions to the candidate regarding financial integrity matters. The discussions focused on clarifying a potentially unexplained wealth for the years 2015, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2022, examining the possible non-payment of taxes as an ethical integrity concern, and analyzing the income received in the form of child support pension between 2017 and 2020.

After the hearing, the Commission will adopt a report containing the relevant facts, the reasons and the proposal whether or not the candidate should pass or fail the assessment. The report will be sent to the Superior Council of Magistracy.

📜The evaluation of the Supreme Court of Justice judges and of candidates for the position of judge of the Supreme Court of Justice is carried out based on the following principles:

a) independence of the Evaluation Commission;

b) fairness of the evaluation procedure;

c) publicity of the acts issued in the evaluation process;

d) exceptional nature of the evaluation.
