Hearing of Ion Buruiană, candidate to the Disciplinary Board of the SCM

Attorney-at-law Ion Buruiană was heard by the Vetting Commission as a candidate for the position of member in the Disciplinary Board of the Superior Council of Magistracy. The hearing took place in the context of the external evaluation of his financial and ethical integrity, carried out in accordance with the provisions of Law 26/2022, subordinate regulations, and other normative acts.

During the hearing, candidate Ion Buruiană provided explanations regarding the following aspects related to his financial integrity:

- potential issues of inexplicable wealth for the periods 2008 - 2010 and 2018 - 2021, falling within the evaluation period;

- the absence of alleged cash savings held by the candidate;

- the submission of the tax amnesty in 2012 or the circumstances under which the candidate declared a cash amount of 970,000 lei available on January 1, 2012.

After the hearing, the Vetting Commission will issue a reasoned decision on passing or failing the evaluation.

📜The evaluation of candidates for the positions of members in the self-administration bodies of judges is carried out based on the following principles:

a) independence of the Evaluation Commission;

b) fairness of the evaluation procedure;

c) publicity of the acts issued in the evaluation process;

d) exceptional nature of the evaluation.
