The Vetting Commission has completed the evaluation of the candidate for the position of judge at the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ), Vladislav Gribincea, and the candidate for the position of member of the Evaluation and Selection Board for Judges of the Superior Council of Magistracy (SCM), Mihaela Pascal. The Commission decided that both candidates meet the integrity criteria and pass the evaluation.
In the case of the SCJ candidate, Vladislav Gribincea, evaluated under Law 65/2023, the Commission has drawn up a report with a proposal to pass and sent it to the SCM. The SCM is to examine in a public meeting the details of the evaluation and the relevant facts and to give a reasoned decision on whether to accept or reject the Commission's report. The Vetting Commission will publish the evaluation report on its website www.vettingmd.eu within 3 days of the SCM's decision.
In the case of the candidate Mihaela Pascal, evaluated under Law 26/2022, the Vetting Commission issued a decision equivalent to the right to remain in competition. The decision was sent to the candidate and to the SCM, as organizer of the competition to fill vacancies in the Evaluation and Selection Board for Judges. Mihaela Pascal is to notify the Commission if she objects to the publication of the decision within 48 hours of receiving the document. In the absence of such notification, the Commission will publish the decision on its website.
Thirteen candidates applied for the competition to fill vacancies in the Evaluation and Selection Board for Judges and were referred by the SCM to the Vetting Commission for evaluation. Of these, one candidate withdrew and two passed the evaluation. Reports on two candidates are pending and eight other candidates are at the stage of being invited to hearings.
At the SCJ, out of the 35 subjects, the Commission sent 16 evaluation reports to the SCM. A further six reports are in the process of being drafted. Seven SCJ candidates and one SCJ judge in office remain under examination, with hearings to be scheduled in the upcoming period.
