The Vetting Commission has issued its decision regarding the integrity assessment of Judge Ștefan Starciuc, a candidate from the Comrat Court of Appeal for the position of member of the Superior Council of Magistracy (SCM), representing the courts of appeal. After completing the evaluation process, the Commission determined that the judge did not meet the integrity criteria and, as a result, failed the evaluation.
The outcome of the evaluation has been published on the Vetting Commission’s official website. The candidate has 48 hours to inform the Commission if they oppose the publication of the decision. If no objection is raised within this period, the decision will be made public on the Commission's website. The Commission's decisions may be challenged before the Supreme Court of Justice within five days of their publication.
With this decision, the Vetting Commission has completed the evaluation of all candidates for the SCM, transmitted by Parliament and the SCM as the organizing institutions for the selection process. Out of the six candidates, five are from civil society and were sent by Parliament for evaluation, while one was referred by the SCM for assessment to represent the courts of appeal. Of these, two candidates passed the integrity assessment, while four failed to meet the required criteria.
Candidates for the SCM and its boards who applied after 1 September 2023, are being evaluated by the Vetting Commission in accordance with the provisions of Law 252/2023 concerning the external evaluation of judges and prosecutors.
