New candidates submitted for evaluation

2025-03-26

The Superior Council of Magistracy (SCM) has submitted three new candidates to the Judicial Vetting Commission for assessment for positions within the judiciary. Accordingly, the list of candidates for the position of judge at the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ) has been supplemented with Ion Covalciuc, Chief Prosecutor of the Bălți Prosecutor’s Office, and Oxana Eșanu, a practicing lawyer. In addition, Denis Lesnic, also a lawyer, will be evaluated as a civil society candidate for the position of member of the Board for the Selection and Evaluation of Judges.

To become fully eligible for the positions they are seeking, the candidates must successfully pass the evaluation carried out by the Judicial Vetting Commission. This assessment focuses on their ethical and financial integrity. Candidates for the SCJ are evaluated under the provisions of Law 65/2023, while those applying for positions within the SCM Boards are assessed pursuant to Law 26/2022—regardless of whether they are members of the judiciary or representatives of civil society.

As part of the vetting process, the Commission will examine whether the candidates have consistently demonstrated conduct aligned with professional ethics, whether they have been involved in any conflicts of interest, and whether their asset declarations accurately reflect their actual income and holdings.

The evaluation process begins once the Commission notifies the candidates about the initiation of the verification procedure.
