2024-05-18

The Vetting Commission has completed the integrity evaluation of three subjects applying for the position of Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ) judge and a sitting SCJ judge currently acting in office. According to the Commission, the SCJ candidates, attorney Rodica Chirtoaca, prosecutor Ion Tețcu, Balti Court of Appeal judge Andrian Ciobanu and acting Supreme Court of Justice judge Anatolie Țurcan, do not meet the criteria of financial and/or ethical integrity and failed the evaluation. The conclusion is contained in the Commission's evaluation reports, sent today to the Superior Council of Magistracy for examination.

The SCM will review the evaluation details in a public session, based on each evaluation file received from the Commission, and will decide whether to accept or reject the Commission's proposal. The Vetting Commission will publish the reports on its website www.vettingmd.eu within 3 days after the SCM adopts its decisions, in accordance with the provisions of Law65/2023 and the Commission's Rules of Organization and Functioning.

As part of the external evaluation process of the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ), the Vetting Commission has completed the evaluation of 19 subjects and submitted its reports to the Superior Council of Magistracy. Out of the total number of reports, 11 recommended passing, while 8 proposed failing the candidates. The SCM examined and accepted 14 of these reports. Currently, seven candidates for the SCJ and one sitting SCJ judge are undergoing the vetting process. Additionally, the Commission has one pending report concerning a candidate who has already been heard.
