Judge Ion Talpa serving at the Balti Court of Appeal was evaluated by the Vetting Commission as a candidate for the position of member of the Evaluation and Selection Board for Judges of the Superior Council of Magistracy (SCM). As per the Commission, the candidate meets the criteria of financial and ethical integrity and passes the evaluation within the meaning of Law 26/2022 based on which he was assessed.
Today, the Vetting Commission sent its reasoned decision to the candidate and the SCM. Consistent with the procedural requirements, the evaluation result was published on the Commission's website. The decision will only be published with the consent of the candidate, who has to notify the Commission whether or not he objects to publication within 48 hours of receiving the document. In the absence of a notification of refusal, the decision will be published on the Commission's Vetting website www.vettingmd.eu
Background
A total of 13 candidates applied the Evaluation and Selection Board for Judges. They include judges, attorneys, lawyers, and representatives of civil society. At this stage of the evaluation process, one candidate has withdrawn, six have passed the evaluation, and six others are in the process of verification or awaiting the decision of the Vetting Commission.
Candidates to the SCM and SCM boards, entered in the competition after 1 September 2023, are evaluated by the Vetting Commission, as established by Law 252/2023 on external evaluation of judges and prosecutors.
