Two candidates for the Disciplinary Board of Judges heard by the Vetting Commission

On June 12 the Vetting Commission publicly heard judge Sofia Aramă from the Cimislia Court and attorney-at-law Ion Rusu, who are running for the position of member of the Disciplinary Board of the Superior Council of Magistracy (SCM), Ion Rusu also running for the position of member of the SCM from among the non-judges proposed by Parliament. As part of the evaluation process under Law 26/2022, the two were invited to hearings to clarify issues related to their financial and/or ethical integrity.

In the hearing of candidate Sofia Aramă, the Commission addressed in its questions details related to possible unexplained wealth for several years falling within the evaluation period, as well as possible deviations from the regulations on declaration of wealth and personal interests.

The hearing of candidate Ion Rusu mainly concerned issues of financial integrity, namely inexplicable wealth, the circumstances surrounding suspicious loans, income obtained as an attorney, the deflated purchase price of some land on the outskirts of the capital, as well as the right of use and habitation of a house, also in the suburb of Chisinau.

After the hearings are completed, the Commission will strive to make a decision on whether or not to pass the candidates within one month.
